Fort William Hiking Tour Itinerary

15km / 9.3 miles

Here’s an example Glen Nevis & Glenfinnan hiking tour itinerary:

  • I’ll collect you from your accommodation at 8:30am in Fort William and we’ll drive through Glen Nevis past the mighty Ben Nevis.

  • Our first hike is to Steall Falls through Nevis Gorge. It’s the 3rd highest waterfall in Scotland. [2 hours / 4km / 2.5 miles]

  • We’ll then drive to Neptune’s Staircase and walk the Caledonian Canal to Corpach shipwreck & marina. [1 hour / 4km / 2.5 miles]

  • Afterwards, we’ll drive out to Glenfinnan and head to the fantastic Glenfinnan Dining Car for lunch.

  • We’ll then walk the Glenfinnan Viaduct Trail in time to see the Jacobite steam train cross the viaduct. [30mins / 2km / 1.3 miles]

  • It’s just a short walk back to the car then we’ll drive to Old Inverlochy Castle and possibly grab a coffee at the Highland Soap Co.

  • From there, we’ll walk a scenic coastal section of the Great Glen Way. [30mins / 2km / 1.3 miles]

  • Afterwards, we’ll head back into Glen Nevis to hike a short section of the Ben Nevis path and idyllic river walk to finish [55 mins / 3.6km / 2.3 miles]

  • We’ll round up the day by visiting the famous Ben Nevis Inn (optional).

Please note that some eateries aren’t open every day, so we need to be flexible.
There are other lunch options available, or you can bring a packed lunch.
I have no control over the steam train so seeing it may not be possible.

Choose Your Hikes

Hiking tours are flexible so you can choose which walks suit you best. We just need to choose the first hike as we can discuss while driving / hiking.

  • Steall Falls (1.5-3 hrs)

  • Cow Hill (2-3 hrs)

  • Glenfinnan Viaduct Trail (1+ hrs)

  • Caledonian Canal (1 hour)

  • Great Glen Way (30+ mins)

In peak season (mid-July to mid-September), I recommend hiking Steall Falls first hike due to parking limitations.
